On the sidelines of the summit of G7 and of l’Otan, the American president Joe Biden embarked on a European tour. He met the British Prime Minister this Thursday Boris Johnson with whom he spoke. During their meeting, the head of the British government hailed the American president as ” a big breath of fresh air “. He also praised the determination of the 46e US president to work with his allies on important global issues like climate change, Covid-19 and security.
Good that Johnson did not draw an explicit parallel between Biden and its predecessor Donald Trump, his comments made it clear that the new president took a much more multilateral approach to the talks than Trump. Indeed, the worldview of Trump has at times shocked, angered and bewildered many European allies of Washington. « It was a long, long and good session. We have covered a wide range of topics “, told Boris Johnson at the end of the 20-minute interview. ” It’s new, it’s interesting and we work very hard together ” he added.
Biden has raised serious concerns
Good that Johnson said the talks were interesting, Biden raised serious concerns over an argument between the Britain and theEuropean Union which he believes could threaten peace in the British region ofNorth Ireland. Moreover, the two leaders did not have a joint briefing after the meeting. The Prime Minister addressed the British media while Biden spoke on a US plan to donate half a billion vaccines to the poorest countries.
