The LabQvest laboratories were the first in Russia to begin mass testing for strains of the delta and omicron coronavirus began a network of LabQvest laboratories, representatives of the medical organization told Rossiyskaya Gazeta.
The study makes it possible to identify strains “omicron” and “delta” even during the incubation period – this can be important, for example, for people who have been in contact with a sick person or are planning a trip and want to make sure that they do not get sick far from home. Also, the analysis can help in the early diagnosis of viral infections – in those cases when the first, nonspecific symptoms have already appeared, and a person wants to make sure whether he is sick with a banal ARVI or is still infected with a coronavirus – the ability to start treatment in the early stages of the disease depends on this.
“The new test is effective during the incubation period and in asymptomatic cases, and the high diagnostic accuracy will help in the fight against a new wave of the epidemic,” says laboratory doctor Anna Safonova.
Mass testing also provides important information to healthcare leaders: both strains are dangerous at their high rate of spread, and the results of mass testing can be used to plan and allocate resources for health care. It is important to conduct such testing in kindergartens, schools and hospitals in order to control the spread of infection in a timely manner.
“Tests for new strains” omicron “and” delta “are performed by PCR with fluorescence detection in real time, the technique detects epidemiologically significant mutations in the S-gene of coronavirus. The sensitivity of the new test is higher than that of conventional PCR tests, which makes it possible to reduce to there is no possibility of false positive results “, – note in” LabQest “.
The research can be performed free of charge in 110 LabQest laboratories in Moscow and the Moscow region. It will be used as an additional confirmatory test for all positive or questionable results for the new SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus infection.
First of all, experts recommend it for epidemiological studies of new strains and for examining patients infected with COVID-19 who have already been vaccinated and have shown an adequate immune response. And also – for people with weakened immunity, especially those who receive antibodies against SARS-CoV-2 with prolonged isolation of the virus.
