Abel approves of Palmeiras' second half and praises the specific point of the defeat to Fortaleza: “For me it's already positive"

After Palmeiras’ third straight defeat at Brasileirão, coach Abel Ferreira made an analysis of the 1-0 setback to Fortaleza this Saturday night (20), at Castelão. And, with a week away from the Libertadores final, coach alviverde preferred to celebrate the fact that he didn’t lose players to injury due to the number of fouls in the game and the poor quality of the pitch.

“We did a first part that wasn’t very good, but the second one was within what we expected. We had 13 shots against the opponent’s eight, we made eight shots inside the penalty area and our opponent four. We made 12 fouls and our opponent 24 fouls. We had six corners in favor, and the opponent, two. We had 67% possession of the ball and our opponent 33%. Therefore, the team produced, but did not score any goals”, he analyzed at a press conference.

Then, he continued: “We created opportunities, we had a well disallowed goal, let’s say it was the same as the one they didn’t disallow at Fluminense, but here the ball passed between the legs and against Fluminense the ball goes at head height and he does this (down). Both goals should have been disallowed. We had an excellent second half, against two big obstacles, our opponent and the field. There are positive things, and I think there was a big priority: getting to the end of the game without injuries. There are positive things to take out of the game.”

Pedro Chaves/AGIF – Players in the duel between Fortaleza and Palmeiras

Contrary to what he did in the duel against São Paulo, Abel chose to field the base of the team that will face Flamengo in the Final of the continental tournament. And, for that reason, the coach made a point of praising Verdão’s performance during the first half against Fortaleza. “This is football, it’s not always who produces the most who wins. That’s what we saw today. A balanced first half and in the second I believe we deserved to score. I can’t just assess the result, the numbers reflect positive indicators. Against this team, not suffering injuries due to the number of fouls, not even with this pitch, is already positive for me”, he added. Currently with 58 points and in third place at the Brazilian Nationals, Palmeiras will return to the field next Tuesday (23), at 21:30, against the leader Atlético-MG, at Allianz Parque. In this duel, Abel must again use the reserves as the following day, the delegation travels to Uruguay.
