The Palmeiras coach didn’t hide and blurted out what he thinks of Atlético coached by Cuca
Palmeiras won their third Copa Libertadores da América title this Saturday (27), against Flamengo by 2-1, in Montevideo, Uruguay. And at the press conference with coach Abel Ferreira from Palmeira, he did not hide the game and spoke about his thoughts on Atlético de Cuca, whose Palmeiras won the Semi and qualified for the grand final.
“Assuming both squads are more qualified than ours? Yes, that’s not a problem, it’s a challenge, knowing where our opponents are strongest. Physically, mentally, tactically, they’re not.” – said the Portuguese, also referring to Flamengo by Renato Gaúcho. Abel added that Renato Gaúcho and Cuca are still better than him: “Isn’t Cuca a better coach than me? Yes, he has more titles, more experience than me.”
The two-time champion for Alviverde also stated that he believes in winning Galo for the title of Brasileirão: “We took away Atlético-MG, which is the most consistent team we’ve played. They will be Brazilian champions for merit, for investing and for having been more consistent, they will be deservedly champion, congratulations to Galo.” – Alvinegro enters the field this Sunday (28) against Fluminense, at 4 pm at Mineirão. If they had beaten Palmeiras last Tuesday, today would possibly be the title game.
To win the title, all it takes is a win against Tricolor Carioca this Sunday and a win against Bahia in the middle of the week, Galo will finally be able to let out the cry of “champion”, as he will be more than confirmed. Currently, the score is 75 points, against 67 for the vice-leader Flamengo. For the next game, Atlético’s likely lineup will have the following formation: Everson; Mariano (Guga), Nathan Silva, Junior Alonso and Guilherme Arana; Allan, Jair and Zaracho; Hulk, Diego Costa (Vargas) and Keno (Nacho).
