Adelaide will host two tennis tournaments, for both men and women, in January 2022 in the run-up to the Australian Open (January 17-30). South Australia Prime Minister Steven Marshall announced this on Monday. At the beginning of this year, all preparatory tournaments were held in Melbourne Park after the players came out of quarantine.
Players who have been vaccinated against COVID-19 can participate in the first grand slam tournament of the season. On Saturday, the organizers of the Australian Open confirmed that unvaccinated people are not welcome. It is not yet certain whether the world number 1 Novak Djokovic will defend his title in Melbourne. The Serb does not want to clarify his vaccination status because he considers it a private matter.
Tennis Australia will announce the full schedule for the Australian Open in the coming days.
