ADP reiterates call not to attend classes; asks “not to politicize” the situation

Santo Domingo – The Dominican Association of Teachers (ADP) said this Thursday that this union has already accumulated more than 10,000 teachers infected with covid-19 or influenza.

“The process initiated by the ADP, to preserve the health of the Dominican family, reaffirms the fact of the increases in infections from teachers that, to date, exceed 10,000 teachers infected with COVID-19 or influenza” , indicated the president of the union, Eduardo Hidalgo.

Similarly, ratified the call to the national teachers not to go to schools to teach face-to-face classes, until it is possible to have a “sincere” dialogue with the Health and Education authorities to find a way out of the situation.

In a press conference of the Executive Committee of the ADP, which is in permanent session, he said: “We cannot be funny to accept the obsession of the minister (Roberto Fulcar) to keep teaching in these conditions.”

Hidalgo highlighted that thousands of teachers have assumed, with their own initiatives, to make contacts with their students through WhatsApp groups and other methods that “reflect the high level of commitment to Dominican education” and responding to the suggestion of some sectors that the ADP that they have sent the teachers not to work.

In that sense, he mentioned the great investment made by the Ministry of Education in tablets that at this time “have not been useful for situations like this.”

He took the opportunity to call on the Minister of Education, Roberto Fulcar, to hold a dialogue and not to politicize the situation.
