Nicholas Alahverdian, 34, was admitted to a Scottish hospital after contracting Covid-19. He fled the United States two years ago after faking his own death in order not to answer for crimes of sexual assault and fraud. Nicholas was located by US authorities on December 13, 2021. The information is from O Globo.
In 2018, Nicholas left the United States just as his DNA was being analyzed by the police in a sex crime case. The result was positive and it was found that he was also wanted by two states for the crime of fraud.
This happened thanks to the US database, into which his DNA was entered, in 2017, after being convicted of sexual assault in 2008 in the state of Ohio and for other offenses committed in Utah.
In February 2020, American police received information that Nicolas had died of cancer, but authorities did not believe him and continued their search.
The fugitive had moved to Scotland and taken the name Arthur Knight. The hoax was discovered while he was a patient at Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.
Scottish police said the arrest took place in Glasgow “in connection with an international arrest warrant”.
The Utah prosecutor thanked Scottish police for capturing Nicholas, who is awaiting extradition to the United States.
