The President mentioned that he made the offer to Biden during the X Summit of North American Leaders, held in Mexico City, last January.
“That plane [presidencial] he doesn’t even have it [Barak] Obama, which by the way we have not been able to sell it because it is so luxurious. Now that the President has come [Joe] Biden I asked him to help us. I take this opportunity to remind him that we sent him the plane, but he will send us cargo planes, helicopters to put out fires, ”she explained.
“That he would help us with that and he told me that they were going to see him; the plane is being constantly maintained and is in perfect condition,” he added.
On March 23, López Obrador announced that the plane would be at the Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA), and that it would be in charge of the company Olmeca-Maya-Mexica, operated by the Secretary of National Defense (Sedena), with the objective that it can be rented to individuals.
The president explained at that time that the aircraft would be open to the public in Saint Lucia if someone wants to rent it to make long trips and attend social events such as weddings, XV years, birthdays.
Since the six-year term of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador began, the federal government has tried to sell the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, which is in charge of the Mexican Air Force.
When President López Obrador came to power in December 2018, he put the presidential plane used by his predecessor Enrique Peña Nieto up for sale because he considered it too luxurious, however, the aircraft has become a headache for the current government. So far they haven’t been able to sell it.
In 2019, the President sent the plane to a Boeing hangar in the United States, but after more than a year without finding a buyer, he returned to Mexico, where López Obrador announced a raffle to get rid of the device, which finally led to a symbolic raffle in September 2020. in which only the value of the aircraft was drawn.
The famous plane is a Boeing 787, nicknamed Dreamliner, with a range of 14.5 hours and a speed of 900 kilometers per hour, which was adapted for the use of the President and his team, with an elegant and complete chamber, treadmill, leather seats, kitchen and media room.
Although it was acquired by President Felipe Calderón (2006-2012) for a price that raised a scandal of 218.7 million dollars, the aircraft arrived in Mexico in 2016 and was used for Peña Nieto’s national and international tours.
