BUENOS AIRES, May 4 (Reuters) – Argentina’s 2021/22 wheat harvest is expected to reach 19 million tons, equaling the 2018/19 season cereal production record, the Buenos Aires Cereal Exchange said on Tuesday. Aires (BdeC).
Argentina is a key world wheat exporter and the production of the new season, whose sowing will begin in the coming weeks, will exceed the 17 million harvested in the 2020/21 season.
“Wheat maintains its sown area and aims to match the production record achieved during the 18/19 cycle,” the BdeC said on its Twitter account.
At the end of April, the Stock Exchange had indicated that it expects a 2021/22 wheat area of 6.5 million hectares, as in the previous season, sustained by high cereal prices and good levels of humidity in the soil.
Meanwhile, the BdeC also said on Tuesday that it expects a new barley harvest of 4.6 million tons, 12.2% more than the production of the cereal in the 2020/21 cycle. (Reporting by Maximilian Heath; Edited by Jorge Otaola)
