This was announced by Hermann Schröder, who has chaired the Rescue, Disaster Management and Civil Defense working group at the Conference of the Interior Ministers since May 2021, on Sunday in Stuttgart.

The basis is the so-called cloverleaf system for a nationwide distribution of patients from regions in which hospitals are threatened with collapse.

From Bavaria, 24 patients had been transferred by Saturday, another six transfers were due on Sunday, said Schröder.

This special Airbus, which is also described as a “flying intensive care unit”, had already brought six patients from Memmingen to North Rhine-Westphalia on Friday. On Sunday he flew five seriously ill corona patients from Munich to Hamburg.

In addition, according to Schröder, six patients from Thuringia and 14 from Saxony were transferred to other countries. “This so far largest intensive transfer operation in Germany helps to relieve the burden on hospitals in the particularly badly affected regions”, it said in a press release.

Saxony, Thuringia and Bavaria are particularly badly affected by the fourth corona wave, they have the highest incidences nationwide.
