Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta is open to it if Arsene Wenger returns to the club. According to the Spanish trainer, talks have already been held, he confirmed during a press moment on Thursday.
“There has already been contact. I saw him recently when we were both at the premiere of his movie and we talked. It was incredibly pleasant to see and talk to him. Hopefully we can bring him closer to the club,” said Arteta, Red Devil coach Albert Sambi Lokonga at the London club.
“I think he can make a big contribution to the club. Because I think he can create a certain climate, because of the respect and admiration that everyone at the club has for what he’s done and also what he stands for as a person in this club.”
According to Arteta, it must mainly come from Wenger itself. “Things take time, and I think he should be in control himself. What I can say from my side, and I think I speak on behalf of everyone, that we would be very happy to have him much closer.”
Arsenal have climbed up in the Premier League after a bad start. ‘The Gunners’ are now fifth. Arsenal will not play in Europe. Under the leadership of Wenger, who retired in 2018, Arsenal belonged to the top of England for years. In 2004 he led the club to the league title and since then the club from London has never been champion again.
Arteta succeeded Unai Emery in the 2019-2020 season. Emery, who was fired two years ago, is now employed by Villarreal.
