Intel will soon introduce new 12th generation Core desktop processors that will support both existing DDR4 and next-generation DDR5 RAM. How do motherboard manufacturers handle this? The first preview gives a leaked list of motherboards from Asus.
On twitter a link to appeared EEC for the upcoming Asus motherboards with the Intel Z690 chipset, which should be a hi-end choice for Intel Alder Lake processors. The list contains a total of 16 models, which, however, have a fundamental division – just according to the support of DDR4 or DDR5 operating memories.
Motherboard models that only support DDR4 memory are labeled “D4“, While models with DDR5 support have nothing special at the end. Some motherboards are available in variants for both DDR4 and DDR5, while others are exclusively designed with a given generation of memory.
