With the absolute protagonist and scorer Efthymis Koulouris, Atromitos “broke the pomegranate” in the Super League and after 3 draws and 6 defeats celebrated its first 2-0 victory this year against PAOK, which suffered its third defeat in the league and stayed at -7 from the top.
The return of Koulouris to the goals after more than two and a half years and, in fact, against his former team, gave the Peristeriotes a very important victory of points (equal in the last position with Apollon), with the team of Giorgos Paraschos, who today was not on the bench due to a coronavirus (debts were performed by Giannis Korakakis), to make her best appearance this year against a PAOK that seemed affected by the interruption and in no way reminded the team that left the derby with “double” with Panathinaikos.
PAOK had complete control of the match in the first 15 minutes, but was not at all threatening towards the home of Gianniotis. From the half of the field and towards their area, the home team was limited, who, seeing that their opponent could not create phases, gradually started to go on the counterattack.
In the 21st minute, in fact, the “blue and whites” lost a huge opportunity to take the lead, with Munith being completely unmarked in the heart of the PAOK area, but he did not catch his head properly and the ball went out.
The Thessalonians tried in vain to find corridors from the sides to enter the area of Gianniotis, while at the same time they made several mistakes in their transfers. One of them in the midfield at the end of the first part, brought Munith and Koulouris to work together perfectly and the second to score with a place. Thanks to the first goal of the former PAOK striker, the first after April 2019 and the adventure he spent in the stadiums of France, Peristeriotes opened the score at a key point of the match (1-0).
Having no other choice, PAOK played everything for everything in the second half. In the 52nd minute, he lost a huge double opportunity to equalize, first with the first header of El Kantouri and the second of Akpom, to be removed by Strougis, while then Varela’s shot was blocked by Gianniotis with his head!
And while the “black and whites” were pushing for 1-1, at 68 ΄, the hosts reached a second goal starring again Koulouris. The PAOK striker was marked in the area by Varelas and the referee Evangelou with the help of VAR indicated the penalty. The “passionate” executed flawlessly and with his second personal goal laid the foundations for the first “three points” (2-0).
In the 70 ‘the shot of the promoted Varela was missed, while the same fate befell his left Akpom four minutes later. Despite the pressure exerted by the guests, the goal did not come and the Peristeriotes justifiably celebrated their huge success.
