Three people died, including a two-month-old baby, and two were injured following a collision between two vehicles this Sunday in the municipality of Marinha Grande, Leiria district, said a source from the National Republican Guard (GNR).
The fatalities are, in addition to the baby, two men, one aged 31 and the other aged 58, the same source told Lusa.
“The accident also resulted in two minor injuries, a 30-year-old woman and a nine-year-old boy,” added the GNR, clarifying that the injured were transported to the Hospital de Santo André, in Leiria.
The baby’s death occurred in this hospital, he said.
A source from the GNR said that the accident, a collision between a light vehicle and another for goods, occurred at 7:49 pm, on the Atlantic Road, in Pedras Negras, São Pedro Moel.
According to the Leiria Sub-regional Emergency and Civil Protection Command, a total of 32 operatives attended the site, from Marinha Grande and Vieira de Leiria firefighters, means from the National Institute of Medical Emergency and GNR, supported by 13 vehicles.
The circumstances of the accident are being investigated by the Núcleo de Investigação Criminal de Acidentes de Viação of the GNR, as a result of which the Atlantic Road is still closed to traffic and, at 10:49 pm, there was no forecast for its reopening.
