A new traffic order will be introduced in Batthyány Square, so the environment will become greener at the junction of the 1st district – the Budapest Transport Center (BKK) informed MTI.
The aim of the renovation of Batthyány Square, which starts on Saturday, is to create a public space that is favorable for pedestrians in cooperation with the district self-government. The area occupied by buses will be reduced, so by increasing the sidewalks and green areas, the environment will be more pedestrian – friendly, they said.
The district will renovate the green spaces in June and then, expected in July, install new selective waste collectors and refurbished benches. The local government will create an orderly, pedestrian-covered pedestrian area on the service road parallel to the Danube, from Fő utca.
The road traffic order will also change. On June 8, at eight o’clock, the possibility of turning left in the direction of Fő utca from the Bem quay will cease. The one-way orientation of the southern road of the square will also change: only BKK flights and taxis can drive from Fő utca. From the Bem quay towards Fő utca, you can drive through Csalogány utca, at the mouth of Csalogány utca and Fő utca, those coming from the Danube can turn left with the help of a traffic light.
The taxi station in Batthyány Square will be moved to the other side of the service road, to the terminating terminus of bus 39, and bus stops will be set up in front of the church.
