Bayern Munich will have to do without its Canadian wing defender Alphonso Davies for the next few weeks. After all, the 21-year-old international was diagnosed with an inflammation of the heart muscle, coach Julian Nagelsmann announced on Friday during the press moment.

“The mild myocarditis was diagnosed on Thursday during the examinations that our players who have been infected with the corona virus have to undergo,” said Nagelsmann. “He will no longer be training for the time being and will be out of action for a few weeks.”

In addition to Davies, many Bayern players have been infected with COVID-19 in recent weeks. Manuel Neuer, Dayot Upamecano, Omar Richards, Leroy Sane, Tanguy Nianzou and Corentin Tolisso are now back training, but it remains to be seen whether they will get the kick-off against Cologne on Saturday. Last weekend, a badly damaged Bayern lost 2-1 to Borussia Mönchengladbach. “None of them are 100 percent fit. With the exception of Neuer, they won’t be ready to play for many minutes.”
