Beerschot intervened after the dramatic start of the season. The team from Antwerp could not win yet and are desolately last with 1 on 21. Within the club there was also more and more resentment about the method of trainer Peter Maes (57), and that has now become fatal for the Limburger. He can scratch, assistants Heymans and Winters also have to leave. Marc Noé takes over for the time being.
Maes had only been employed at the Kiel since last summer, after he was snatched from STVV to succeed Will Still. The experienced Limburger managed to get a point in Ghent, but he lost all six matches with Beerschot. After seven days of play, the purple and white adventure is over for the 57-year-old trainer. His assistants Davy Heymans and Stefan Winters also have to leave.
It was not only the poor sporting performance of his team that led to Maes’s dismissal: the relations in the technical staff and with the players had not been good lately. His two permanent assistants Heymans and Winters, for example, caused resentment and the old-school way of working was not appreciated by everyone.
For the time being, Marc Noé takes over the role of head coach, but Beerschot now has to look for a new coach. Not an easy job, because the club doesn’t just have someone on hand, like at the time with Losada or Still.
It is the first trainer dismissal of this season in the Belgian highest division.
