Joe Biden was on the phone with Volodymyr Zelensky just as Russia’s tanks breached Ukraine’s border a year ago. Biden has been a staunch supporter of the war effort against Russia from the very beginning. Biden is the symbol of international aid to Ukraine and, therefore, before visiting European capitals, the Ukrainian President went to Washington. And at a time of particular uncertainty on the war front, when Bakhmut’s loss is feared and Russia’s slight advances are noted, there is Joe Biden again on a surprise visit to Kiev, where he had a “conversation” with Zelensky. “[Ela] brings us closer to victory.”
