Luke Thill, one boy in America created a little house he made himself in the backyard of his family home in Dubuque, Iowa, and is all the rage in Youtube. The decision of the boy, who considers himself a construction fanatic, was accompanied by his tiredness and boredom from doing nothing during his summer holidays, and had the support of his parents, with whom he worked to raise funds to carry out her project. The family set a goal to raise $ 1,500 to begin laying the foundation for the house.
This is how Luke began to realize his idea at age 11, when he began to fulfill his personal challenge. With the renovation and construction work he did with his father and the help of his mother with the interior design, the boy also received the support of the neighbors in his neighborhood. “I knew it was possible and I put my heart and soul into budgeting, planning and executing my ideas”, Luke confessed, in dialogue with the magazine People.
Something very particular was the use of materials, since many of them were donated, and he often traded his services for help with certain aspects of construction, like cleaning a neighbor’s garage in exchange for some electrical work. The house is on a corner of his parents’ property. Although the young man acknowledges that he did not yet think of moving there permanently, he clarifies that it was always intended to be a refuge of his own and a space for fun to spend a lot of time with his closest friends.
The young man took a year and a half (between 2016 and the end of 2017) to finish the house, which measures 8 m² and has a simple but comfortable style inside: It has a kitchen with a working cooker and small refrigerator, a living room with a pull-out dining table and a TV, and a loft area with a bed, which is reached via a staircase that leads to an area elevated, where Luke sleeps a few nights and meets friends to watch movies. Outside, there are two cedar wood walls and two vinyl siding, left over from her grandmother’s house. The door and a couple of windows were restored, as well as the materials for its terrace.
But his path in construction and architecture did not end there. It is that Luke, along with his twin brother Cole, made the decision at age 14 to go for more: they started thinking about building a small 4m motorhome2 in order to be able to enjoy it during family trips. The project cost the brothers US $ 2,500, and they have already made more than 50 camping trips across the country since its completion. In 2020 the caravan had modifications: Luke did a major renovation and replaced the cabinets, improved the interior and redid the decoration.
