LONDON (AP) – The player shortage facing the Burnley club due to coronavirus infections and injuries has led to the postponement of its Premier League game against Leicester.

The Premier accepted Burnley’s argument that there were not enough players available – 13 court players and a goalkeeper – for Saturday’s game.

This is the 20th Premier League game to be postponed since December 12 due to the confinement of footballers. Relegation-facing Burnley have played three fewer games beforehand than Norwich, which is one point behind in last place.

The COVID-19 outbreaks continue to impact other clubs. Chelsea have ruled out defender Andreas Christensen for Saturday’s game against Manchester City while serving a quarantine.

The City also registers new infections, although coach Pep Guardiola did not reveal how many or who on Friday.

“We have some new cases but they want privacy, so I can’t tell them,” Guardiola said at a press conference.

The Premier League leaders were short of 21 people, including Guardiola and seven players, in last Friday’s 4-1 win over Swindon in an FA Cup third round match. Some of them have since tested negative.

“Some people are back, some tested positive again,” Guardiola explained. “When you test negative twice you are back. Otherwise he stays at home ”.
