After two years without being held, this 2022 the prestigious Capablanca International Chess Tournament will return to Havana in memory, at the Hotel Nacional de Cuba from April 18 to 28.

According to the Cuban Chess Federation, the fight will have two groups: Elite and Premier. In the first, the attendance of ten chess players (five Cubans) is expected, while the Grand Masters Sandro Mareco, Surya Shekhar Ganguly and Miguel Santos Ruiz have already confirmed. The former has an accumulated rating of 2,643 points and dominates the list of the best chess players in Argentina. Indian Ganguly owns 2,627 units and Spaniard Santos owns 2,596.

The Elite group will be developed under the format that has been used in the latest versions of the Capablanca: a double round robin system. It was known that the selection of national players will be released at the beginning of March, after the national contests of both sexes end.

The Ukrainian genius Vassily Ivanchuk was the winner of the last Capablanca in May 2019.
