Gabby Petito, the American woman who disappeared without a trace at the end of August during a tour of the United States with her boyfriend, was indeed murdered and died of strangulation. That has been confirmed by a state doctor in the state of Wyoming.
The family of 22-year-old Petito raised the alarm in early September after her boyfriend Brian Laundrie returned home to Florida without his girlfriend, refusing to disclose Petito’s whereabouts. A few days later, the man fled, shortly after the body of his girlfriend was found dead in a national park in Wyoming.

Preliminary investigations had already shown that Petito had been murdered, but a definitive report had to wait until the coroner had thoroughly examined the woman’s corpse. That report now confirms that it is indeed a murder, and that Petito was killed by strangulation.
Quest for friend
The time of death is estimated to be three to four weeks before Petito’s body was found, on September 19. That time would roughly coincide with the time when the woman was last seen alive with Laundrie.
Brian Laundrie is not yet officially suspected of the murder, although American public opinion does consider him the suspected murderer. Police and FBI have now labeled him as “person of interest‘ and have been searching intensively for the man for weeks.
