He was crowned the winner of The Voice Australia 2020 in July.
But on Saturday, Chris Sebastian revealed he almost didn’t appear on Channel Nine’s singing show because he was planning to relocate to Nashville, Tennessee, to pursue a career in music.

Chris said: ‘I felt trapped and I had a contract in the States but I really didn’t want to leave so I decided to do The Voice.’

Chris also said if he had decided to travel to the U.S., he would of been in ‘Nashville when COVID hit and as a new artist, I would of been screwed’.

After winning the show in July, Chris told TV Tonight he’d watched the show’s finale with his family at his brother, Voice coach Guy Sebastian’s house.
Surprisingly, he confessed he had no idea he’d won until he saw it on TV, with the show filming alternate endings ahead of the finale.
Chris said he was ‘absolutely shocked’ when he discovered he had won, calling the finale ‘mind blowing’.

‘I had zero idea. It was recorded a couple of days ago. We recorded four alternate endings. So whoever got the highest amount of votes, there was three minutes for the network to play that one.’
He also addressed fan accusations the Nine show is ‘rigged’, given his big brother features as a coach.
‘I’ve heard the rumour that it’s rigged. I don’t want to spend my day trying to debunk theories. Obviously, it’s not… I’m incredibly happy,’ he said.
