Within 24 hours, Brazilian health authorities confirmed 10,312 cases of covid-19 and 284 deaths from the disease. The data are in the daily update of the Ministry of Health, released this Tuesday (23). As a result, the number of deaths caused by the pandemic reached 613,066.

There are still 2,855 deaths under investigation. This situation occurs because there are cases in which the patient died, but the investigation of whether the cause was covid-19 still requires further examinations and procedures. With the new cases registered by the authorities, the total number of people infected by the new coronavirus since the beginning of the pandemic reached 22,030,182.

There are still 169,134 cases in follow-up, from people who had confirmed covid-19. Until this Tuesday, 21,247,982 people have recovered from the disease in the country. The numbers are generally smaller on Sundays, Mondays or on the days following holidays due to the reduction of teams to feed the data. On Tuesdays and two days after holidays, there are usually more daily logs due to the updated data accumulation.

According to the balance of the Ministry of Health, at the top of the ranking of states with the most deaths by covid-19 registered so far are São Paulo (153,571), Rio de Janeiro (68,884), Minas Gerais (56,048), Paraná (40,754) and Rio Grande do Sul (35,983). The states with the fewest deaths resulting from the pandemic are Acre (1845), Amapá (1997), Roraima (2042), Tocantins (3,912) and Sergipe (6,040). There have been no new deaths since yesterday in Acre.
