Sputnik V and AstraZeneca 20210730

Russia to register Sputnik vaccine against him Covid-19 for boys between 12 and 17 years old which joins their counterparts Pfizer and Moderna, so far the only ones authorized for pediatric use.

According to the Ministry of Health of that country, this Tuesday the new version of the Sputnik vaccine for minors will be authorized, which will be called Sputnik M and it will be used in adolescents from 12 to 17 years old. In this way, there will be three inoculants that the government of Vladimir Putin will offer to the rest of the world, along with Sputnik V y Sputnik Light.

Russia says Sputnik V had a “decisive role” against Covid-19 in Argentina

The announcement was made at a press conference by representatives of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) and the Instituto Gamalea. During the conference, speakers reported on the coronavirus vaccine for adolescents as the possibility of making an intranasal vaccine.

On the other hand, the RDIF highlighted the need to collaborate with other laboratories to strengthen the immunity acquired from the vaccine and “find an effective long-term scientific solution”, especially in view of the imminent fifth wave of coronavirus in Europe.

Russia will offer other producers the single-dose Sputnik Light as a universal booster, based on studies carried out in Argentina, where the doses of Sputnik V and AstraZeneca were combined.

“With mRNA vaccines showing decreasing efficacy, it is important to observe the efficacy of the vaccine in 5-6 months, not in 2-3 months as was done previously, and explore the heterologous boost with other vaccines to lengthen the immunity created. by mRNA vaccines “, they pointed out at the press conference regarding the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines, which use the type of inoculant known as Messenger RNA unlike Sputnik, whose platform is a “non-replicative viral vector”, known as adenoviral.

Along these lines, the Sputnik representatives stressed that adenoviral vaccines “provide longer lasting efficacy” than mRNA vaccines, since they elicit a longer response of antibodies and T cells, as demonstrated by the most recent study carried out in the micro-country San Marino.

The WHO warned that until March in Europe there may be 700 thousand deaths from Covid-19

Combination of vaccines to end the coronavirus pandemic

The Russian authorities insisted on the benefits of combining vaccines in order to strengthen immunity against the infection caused by SARS-Cov-2, citing as an example the studies carried out in Argentina. “They have shown that the immune response of the booster with Sputnik Light is much greater than two injections of the same vaccine”they pointed out.

In turn, they stressed that a “vaccine combination approach” will be offered to other producers, as well as the single-dose Sputnik Light vaccine as a universal booster. “The combination of vaccines is the key to combat the pandemic,” they pointed out.
