All defined. Chilean Pablo Quintanilla from Honda finished second in motorcycles in the 44th edition of the Dakar Rally. The competition was held in Saudi Arabia and the British Sam Sunderland, from the Spanish Gas Gas team, which has the support of the Austrian brand KMT, achieved his second Dakar in the category.
The Chilean from Honda got the first place in the twelfth stage with a result of 1h and 40 minutes, behind are Ricky Brabec from Honda at 5 ″ 3, Toby Price from KTM at 18 ″ 4, Nacho Cornejo from Honda at 29 ″ 5 and Joan Barreda de Honda at 1’13 ″.
However, in the final classification, Sunderland achieved a time of 8h47’30 ″ and beat Chilean Pablo Quintanilla with an advantage of 3 minutes and 27 seconds, who was the winner of the last stage; while Honda’s was by 6 minutes and 47 seconds ahead of KTM’s Matthias Walkner of Austria.
In statements to the press, the Chilean confessed to being “happy. I went out to give it my all, my 100 percent. With just one mistake I could lose second place, so it was stressful, intense, from the morning. But I am very happy with my result, with my performance in the race and with how I worked every day. I did a very good job and I am happy with this second place. One more podium and one more Dakar, adding more experience “.
The Chilean driver focused more on defending his second place than on beating the final winner, the British Sam Sunderland of Gas Gas: “I knew the only way to reach it was if it made a navigational error, but the fact that there was no hidden checkpoint made that difficult.”
