Mental problems after their parents divorced
She writes that her problems began in 1989 when she was 13 years old. At the time, her mother was in the process of divorcing her father, Bill. At the time, Barr was busy adjusting to being introduced to her sitcom. In her book, Pentland also addresses her parents’ War of the Roses. She claims that she and her siblings were involved in the court battle at the time.
When they were children, they were closely observed. “On the advice of the lawyers, everything we did was recorded,” Pentland writes. Her parents then used this to sue each other. “If I came home from my dad to my mom with dirt under my nails, I would [Barrs Anwälte] write that down. If I gained weight, the lawyers would notice that too.”
Eventually the stress became too much for her. She gained weight and started cutting herself as details about the divorce and her own personal life were leaked to the tabloids. At the age of thirteen she was brought into an institution for the first time. In her book, Portland claims that her mother drove her to the hospital for therapy at the time. On the way there, she hardly spoke to her. After all, she was left in the hospital for eight months without an explanation.
Roseanne Barr has not yet commented on her daughter’s claims.
