Images taken in Bonito, 277 kilometers from Campo Grande, show an anaconda digesting a capybara. The businessman and deputy mayor of the municipality, Juca Ygarapé, recorded images using photographic equipment, and published them on his social networks.

“Nature is beautiful, the anaconda is in the mating season, changing its skin and feeding. This only occurs in a preservation area, in Bonito (MS)”, he posted.

The post generated hundreds of likes and shares. Also, some followers commented on the courage to be so close to the snake. “Geez… I like to dive, but I don’t need the anaconda on the tour,” joked a follower. “You’re crazy, Juca, you go beyond mere courage, this one has limits. Take care!”, said another comment.

O Campo Grande News he tried to get in touch with Juca, who has tourist projects in the city, but he didn’t get a return, as he was on a trip.

In early August, he had already spotted another snake, seven meters long, while capturing images for the British newspaper BBC. “It’s been ten years that I always see, film, super calm, docile. What you can’t do is go there and poke her. She doesn’t attack, she’s going to defend herself,” he said at the time, about the species.

Although they have not verified what this anaconda now fed on, the hypothesis is that it was the capybara. It is worth remembering that this species, also known as anaconda, can reach up to nine meters in length and, when adult, it can even swallow an ox.
