Legendary Canadian hockey player Marcel Dionne congratulated Alexander Ovechkin, who beat him in NHL goals, and also appreciated the Russian’s chances of surpassing Wayne Gretzky’s record.
World and Canadian ice hockey legend Marcel Dionne congratulated Washington’s Russian forward Alexander Ovechkin, who beat him in goals in the NHL regular championships. After a double against the New York Rangers, the Russian scored 732 goals and moved up to fifth in the NHL, one goal ahead of Dionne.
Right during the match on the stadium scoreboard, the Canadian warmly congratulated Ovechkin and wished him good luck.
“I had no doubt that you were ahead of me, I realized that when you reached 700 goals. You have special qualities, you are a natural sniper. Brett Hull is ahead.”
Dionne also spoke about whether Ovechkin will be able to conquer Wayne Gretzky’s record. “While we think about it, this is a completely different level. But you have a chance,” – said Dionne.
Gretzky scored 894 goals, followed by Gordy Howe – 801, Jaromir Jagr in third place – 766, ace of fourth-coming Brett Hull – 741 goals.
