Eli Iserbyt shows excellent form and wins cross in Merksplas...

Eli Iserbyt has struck again in the Superprestige. In Merksplas, after a fast and exciting cross, he was already victorious for the third time in four rounds in the secondary classification. Quinten Hermans and Laurens Sweeck completed the podium. Iserbyt, who already took his tenth victory of the season, will of course also remain the leader in the Superprestige.

No Michael Vanthourenhout at the start in Merksplas. Sin. The rider of Pauwels Sauzen-Bingoal had his real breakthrough last year in Merksplas. For the first time he won a classification cross. And at the same time, he dedicated the victory to his late cousin Glenn, which resulted in a beautiful, emotional moment. A cold – the team’s version – and knee pain – teammate Eli Iserbyt’s version – kept him sidelined this edition.

However, present at the fourth Superprestige round of the season: Ryan Kamp. The Dutchman started scorching on the fast course of Merksplas and thinned out the suit in the first two laps. The following were left in his track: Quinten Hermans, Laurens Sweeck, Toon Aerts and Superprestige leader Eli Iserbyt. Started less well: European champion and man in shape Lars Van der Haar. The Dutchman initially had to chase, but after just under three laps came to join the lead of the race. Corné van Kessel also did that.

The signal for Toon Aerts to shake the tree firmly. An action that was quickly followed by Laurens Sweeck. Together, the two put pressure on the rest. Only Iserbyt and Hermans were able to follow – with great difficulty. A lap later, the European champion also rejoined. Ryan Kamp had already had to give up after a fall and back problems.

The five stayed together for a while. Until Quinten Hermans made a mistake for the second time on a slope. He caused a small delay that again gave Aerts and Sweeck free rein. However, the duo was again unable to hold on to the lead they gained. Going into round 8, the quintet had reunited again. Only Van der Haar remained hanging on the stretcher. He would never really be at the front of the cross again.

Exciting ending

The start of an exciting slot in Merksplas. Laurens Sweeck continued from the front for the umpteenth time, but without result. Two laps from the end, Iserbyt accelerated. The leader in the Superprestige hoped to be able to triumph in this secondary classification for a third time in four rounds after Ruddervoorde and Niel – he only had to leave Gieten to Toon Aerts. Not unjustly. His acceleration meant that Sweeck and Hermans had to drop out. Toon Aerts was also about to break until Iserbyt went through a bend too abruptly and fell.

The signal for a new plot twist. Aerts took over and a quickly recovered Iserbyt again had Hermans and Sweeck in his rear wheel. Not for long. The leader in the Superprestige continued again and although Hermans came up very hard, this attack turned out to be the final one. Iserbyt held on and won. Again. He is consolidating his leading position in the Superprestige standings. Quinten Hermans and Laurens Sweeck were allowed on stage.
