After Aladdin, Guy Ritchie will adapt Hercules live for Disney

Joe and Anthony Russo (Avengers 3 and 4) will co-produce this film directly inspired by the 1997 animated version.

We have known for some time that Disney wants to produce a live version of Herculesone of his animated classics released in cinemas in 1997. Deadline now reveals that this film will be directed by Guy Ritchiewhich has already performed the same exercise with Aladdinin 2019. The director of Snap has since reunited with Jason Statham for the action thriller Operation Fortune: Cunning of Warand recently shot an untitled action movie starring Jake Gyllenhaal, but once those two projects come out, he’ll be able to tackle Herculeswhich will be inspired, like the animated film by John Musker and Ron Clements, by Greek and Roman mythology, but also by Gospel music.

This version was written by Dave Callahan, whom Disney knows well since he collaborated on the scripts ofAnt Man and of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings for Marvel. Deadline specifies however that other screenwriters will be hired soon to rework the story of Hercules. The casting is not yet open.
