When asked how often she visits the area, Elizabeth replied, “I’ve been coming up here since I was a little girl, which is over 80 years.”
“Well, if you’ve been coming up here for over 80 years, you must have met the Queen,” said the tourist, who still didn’t realize who he had the honor to meet. “In a flash, she said, ‘I haven’t, but Dick [Anm. Griffins Spitzname] she meets here regularly,” said the former security officer.
The hiker then asked him how the monarch was like. “Because I was with her for a long time and I knew I could tease her, I said, ‘Oh, she can be very argumentative at times, but she has a wonderful sense of humor.'”
What happened then, Griffin would not have expected at all: His interlocutor pulled out a camera and asked for a photo – but not with the Queen, but with him of all people. “Then we swapped places and I took a picture of her with the Queen,” said the former Queen’s aide. “And we never said it and we waved goodbye. After that, Her Majesty said to me, ‘I’d like to be one Fly on the wall when he shows these photos to his friends in America and hopefully someone will tell him who I am’.”
