The blood analysis showed that Chris Hemsworth, according to the British Daily Mail, is one of the three percent of people with a protein mutation in apolipoprotein E, also known as ApoE4. The genetic change on chromosome 19 is used in medicine as a risk factor for the development of atherosclerosis and Alzheimer’s dementia. In the case of Chris Hemsworth, the actor’s risk of one day contracting the insidious disease is eight to ten times higher than people without the gene mutation.

The actor now has to let the shocking diagnosis sink in. “Doing this episode about death and being confronted with your own mortality made me think, ‘Oh no, I’m not ready to go yet!’ back,” said Chris Hemsworth of his reaction to the diagnosis.
