Chris Hemsworth announces he's putting his career on hold

Diagnosed as having an “increased risk” of developing Alzheimer’s disease, the actor wants to take time off.

Thor will put away his hammer. For a while. Chris Hemsworth decided to put his career on hold, after filming the docu-series Limitless, currently on Disney +, and dedicated to the human body.

During filming, the Marvel star discovered he was at an increased risk of being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease after a genetic test revealed he had two copies of the APOE4 gene. Whether Chris Hemsworth is not sick today, this medical announcement has led her to be more selective when choosing her next projects:

“Making an episode about death, dealing with your own mortality made me think”, he confides to Vanity Fair. “Oh my God, I’m not ready to go yet…I want to sit down and live in this world with a greater sense of calm and gratitude. It really triggered something in me and I want to take some time.”

He pursues : “Since we finished the series, I finished the things I was already committed to. I’m almost done with this promo tour for Limitless and then I can go home. I decided to take a long leave and just simplify my life. To be with my children. To be with my wife…”

Chris Hemsworth said he was devastated by this revelation because of his grandfather’s battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

“Initially, this series was an exploration of human longevity… It became even more relevant and important to me, even more poignant than I ever thought. It was a cathartic experience to dive into everything I had to do either on the front of disease prevention…”
