La Romana.- A court in the province of La Romana decided this Monday to vary the preventive detention that the alleged drug trafficker Pascual Cabrera had, for the payment of 5 million pesos as bail by an insurance company.

The president of the collegiate court of La Romana, Máximo Vanderhors, imposed the variation of the measure for asset laundering.

Cabrera is accused of money laundering and also faced an accusation of contract killing, among other accusations, along with other defendants whose cases have previously been known in Santo Domingo and given pure and simple freedom.

The defendant was placed in preventive detention in the National District at the end of 2019, after the Supreme Court of Justice (SCJ) declined the case that had been heard in the La Romana courts.

The defendant’s defense, led by his brother Julio Cesar Cabrera, Armando Sánchez and José Fiss, explained that they were satisfied with the court’s ruling.

They said that after five years waiting for that decision, the day has come when the right thing has been done, although they know that the process must always continue with the hope that justice will be done in the end because they know that their client is innocent.

Remember that Cabrera spent a year in a prison in Spain for violating its laws.
