Santo Domingo. Hundreds of people joined this Saturday the “RD Patriotic March”, organized by the Duartian Institute and a group of entities and personalities that demanded the intervention of the international community to stabilize Haiti, which they considered had gone from being a migration phenomenon to what they defined as an exodus of invasion and occupation.

The Patriotic March began in Colón Park, in the Colonial City; which toured El Conde street and ended at the Altar de la Patria, in Independencia park, with a speech by the president of the Duartiano Institute, Wilson Gómez Ramírez, who read the “Patriotic Manifesto of August 6, 2022”, which contains nine measures with suggestions that should be adopted to help reverse this geopolitical problem.

He also called for “greater speed, transparency and effectiveness in the construction of the physical-technological wall or fence on the border.”

The second request was “the application of 80% of Dominican labor in the economic activities of the country, in accordance with the provisions of the Labor Code and promptly promote structural reforms and the modernization of the nation’s productive apparatus.”

The fourth indicates that “all measures and provisions be adopted so that, in accordance with the reality set forth above, the Armed Forces are brought in a number as sufficient as the current circumstances demand, to border control to prevent the return of returnees and new illegal incursions, at the cost and with the rigor that the case requires, until the construction work on the wall is completed and effective technological mechanisms are put into practice that guarantee supervision.”

The fifth point proposes that “the Ministry of Education comply with article 63, numeral 13, of the Constitution of the Republic, which mandates that” in order to train citizens aware of their rights and duties, in all educational institutions public and private, instruction in social and civic education, the teaching of the Constitution, fundamental rights and guarantees, national values and the principles of peaceful coexistence shall be mandatory.

“The adoption of a highly restrictive policy in relation to the Dominican consulates in Haiti and the issuance of visas by them during a declared time of emergency,” establishes the seventh point of the manifesto of the Patriotic March.

The eighth suggests “the meticulous review and supervision of the civil registry, the immigration book, particularly with regard to the registration of the children of Haitians born in Dominican territory since the year 2000, that our diplomacy produce a resounding rejection of the campaigns misleading that want to confuse statelessness with undocumented status and that seek to reverse the historic ruling of the Constitutional Court number 168-13, on the definition of Dominican nationality.
