Friends: Mr. Treeger is dead, actor Mike Hagerty was 67

The concierge of the building had appeared in 5 episodes of the cult series.

Less than a year after the death of James Michael Tyler, aka Gunther, Friends just lost another iconic supporting role in the series. Actor Mike Hagerty, who played Mr. Treeger, the janitor and handyman in the building where the gang lived, died yesterday at the age of 67. The cause of death has not been revealed.

“With great sadness, the family of Michael G. Hagerty announced his death yesterday in Los Angeles,” confirmed on Instagram the actress Bridget Everett, with whom he shared the poster this year on HBO, in the comedy Somebody, Somewhere. “He was a beloved character actor, his love for his hometown of Chicago and his family were the cornerstones of his life. Mike was a devoted husband, who is survived by his wife Mary Kathryn, his sister Mary Ann Hagerty and her sister-in-law Kathleen O’Rourke, and their daughter Meg. He will be greatly missed.”

Michael G. Hagerty had arrived in Friends from 1995, at the start of season 2. The kind Mr. Treeger had returned five times in the cult series, until season 8, and in particular with the memorable episode of season 4 “The One With the Ballroom Dancing” , in which he learned to dance with Joey…
