According to a report by the South Coast Register (via Screen Rant), George Miller began filming scenes for the next feature film in the Mad Max franchise, titled Furiosa, at a former salt mining site in Kernell, Australia.
For those who don’t know, this had already happened at the time of Beyond Thunderdome.
Actually, some of the key moments of the third feature film starring Mel Gibson happened there, including the revelation of the wrecked 747 plane in the desert.
Recently, Miller commented on his work on the spinoff, and what the main difference in the narrative will be.
”I’ll tell you how this movie is going when it’s almost finished, but it’s a lovely start for sure. All I can say about my excitement about doing it is that it’s definitely exciting, because even though it’s within the Fury Road universe, it also has a lot of differences.”
“The biggest difference is probably time. Let’s remember that Fury Road took place over three days and two nights, while this story is over fifteen years. So it’s a saga.”
The feature film will begin principal photography early next year with no set date, while the premiere is scheduled for May 2024.
Anya Taylor-Joy (The Man in the North) is the protagonist, taking on the role consecrated by Charlize Theron in the previous film, and is joined by Chris Hemsworth (Thor: Love and Thunder) as the antagonist Dr. Dementus and Tom Burke (CB Strike).
