Guardians of the Galaxy 3 could finally tell Rocket's tragic backstory with a new character

MCU fans are anticipating Guardians of the Galaxy 3 with mixed feelings. The anticipation has now been joined by concern, because the blockbuster is said to include a Marvel figure death. A possible storyline of the film could be similarly tragic: The sad fate of Marvel fan favorite Rocket Raccoon (Voice: Bradley Cooper) may finally be illuminated thanks to a mysterious new character.

New Guardians of the Galaxy 3 character could explain history of MCU raccoon

Rumor has it that new cast member Chukwudi Iwuji is set to play the Marvel character of the High Evolutionary (via Screen Rant ). This is a former human creator who was created with the help of supernatural evolutionary powers turns animals into highly intelligent beings and settled new worlds with them.

The character, who will possibly appear as the main villain of the film, could have created Rocket in the same way. What sounds only averagely fantastic by Marvel standards would deliver a tragic storyline for Guardians 3: the mentally unstable High Evolutionary tends to to regard his creations as mistakes and to want to destroy them.

That would give the hilarious Rocket a rather horrifying fate: a creature created on a pathological whim that must flee the merciless will of their evil creator. And it might not make it in the end.

But whether it is character death in Guardians of the Galaxy 3 is about Rocket, is, of course, speculation, as is Iwuji’s role and storyline. However, director James Gunn hinted that the MCU raccoon should play a major role in the upcoming film (via deadline ). Also fitting with the introduction of the High Evolutionary is that he often clashes with a legendary Marvel character in the comics. It will definitely appear in the upcoming blockbuster.

In order for this theory to work, Gunn would have to take some liberties with the comic book template (as has happened several times before). That’s where Rocket originally came from as a genetically modified therapy animal developed for a planet full of mentally ill people. A cheerful backstory just doesn’t seem to be destined for the roly-poly Rocket.
