Hans Magnus Enzensberger died in Munich at the age of 93

The poet, writer, essayist, biographer, editor, translator and editor Hans Magnus Enzensberger died on November 24, 2022 at the age of 93 in Munich.

He was born in Kaufbeuren on November 11, 1929 and grew up in Nuremberg. He studied literature and philosophy in Erlangen, Freiburg, Hamburg and Paris. In 1955 he received his doctorate with a thesis on Clemens Brentano’s poetics. Enzensberger lived in Norway, Italy, Cuba and the United States, worked as a radio editor and lecturer, repeatedly got involved in social discourse and certain political debates.

Enzensberger created over 100 prose works

He has published over 100 works of prose for adults and children, essays, plays and volumes of poetry. He also published the book series “The Other Library”, the “Course Book” and the culture magazine “TransAtlantik”.

He has received many awards for his work, including the 33-year-old Georg B├╝chner Prize.
