It was probably the most spectacular – and also the most talked about – outfit at this year’s Met Gala: Reality star Kim Kardashian appeared on the red carpet last month in the original Marilyn Monroe dress, which cost 4.8 million euros.
She wore the fitted dress with the 6,000 hand-sewn crystals in 1962 when she serenaded then US President John F. Kennedy on the occasion of his 45th birthday. Because it’s so tight, Monroe had to be sewn in just before her performance.
At a fitting before the Meta Gala, Kardashian also had trouble fitting into the dress. “When I didn’t like it, I wanted to cry because you can’t change it at all,” she said at the time.
With a radical diet, with which she is said to have lost seven kilos within a few weeks, she finally squeezed into the silk robe – and combined it with a white fur stole because the zipper on the back could not be closed completely.
