Late Podcaster Deborah James: Widower Opens Up About Her Last Minutes

Deborah James was terminally ill

Shortly before her death, James had told her followers that she did not have long to live and would not continue to fight her illness. “The message I never wanted to write. We tried everything, but my body just doesn’t play along” – with these words the podcaster addressed her fans on Instagram in May. The BBC podcast host revealed at the time that she was in a hospice after her long battle with stage IV colon cancer.

“My active care has ended and I have now been transferred to a home hospice with my incredible family around me and the focus is on making sure I am not in pain and spending time with them,” the 40-year-old explained in her heartbreaking statement. “No one knows how long I have left, but I can’t walk, I sleep most of the time and most of the things I took for granted are pipe dreams,” she continued.

She and her family would have left no stone unturned and hoped for a cure. “But even with all the innovative cancer drugs in the world, or some magical new breakthrough, my body just can’t keep going.”

“In over 5 years of writing about how I thought it would be my last Christmas, how I wouldn’t see my 40th birthday and not see my kids go to high school – I never intended to write that I would actually say goodbye,” James wrote. “I think it was the rebellious hope in me.”
