“It was absolutely important to all of us.”
It was a small revolution at Marvel: last year, in the Disney + series, Loki confirmed to be bisexual, as are several variants of his comic book counterpart. And in a recent interview with The Guardian, Tom Hiddleston promises that season 2 will not return to this revelation:
“I was truly honored to take on this role. But we all wanted to keep the integrity of the character. So I wanted to make sure that we didn’t lose some things along the way, while doing something new. Like the fact that Loki is bisexual. It is something significant. It was a small step, and there is still a lot to do. But it was absolutely important to all of us.”
Phew, Owen Wilson will be back in season 2 of Loki!
Although the sexuality of Loki was never central to the plot, its brief mention is a significant step from the MCU towards the LGBT+ community. It’s unclear if the sequel to the series will continue to dig deeper into this aspect of the character, but at least it shouldn’t revisit it.
Season 2 of Loki will air in 2023 on Disney+.
