Ana de Armas slips into the skin of the famous actress of Some like it hot and 7 years of reflection for Andrew Dominik.
Expected at the last Cannes festival, then finally screened at the start of the next school year at the Venice Film Festival, Blonde hairby Andrew Dominik, is finally revealed: Netflix has just announced that it will arrive on the platform on September 23, 2022. The director of Cogan – Killing Them Softly and of The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford warned that his adaptation of the eponymous novel by Joyce Carol Oates, which chronicles the intimate life of Marilyn Monroe, was going to “offend everyone”, explaining that this film would hide nothing of the misfortunes of the actress. Certainly not the sexual abuse she suffered.
The first teaser, all in symbols, thus shows the sad Norma Jeane, suffering among other things from having been abandoned by her mother, losing hope behind the scenes. Facing a flaming mirror, she cries, then the flashes of the paparazzi punctuate the rest of the video to the tune of “Diamonds are a girl’s best friend”which she sang in Men prefer blondesbefore she finds her smile of facade by erasing her discomfort to become again Marilyn Monroe, the star acclaimed by millions of fans. “Blonde hair is a bold reinterpretation of the trajectory of Marilyn Monroe, one of Hollywood’s most timeless icons, also specifies the official synopsis of the film. From her tumultuous childhood to her meteoric rise and complex love stories – from Norma Jeane to Marilyn –, Blonde hair blurs the line between fact and fiction to explore the growing gap between her public persona and the person she was in private.”
Blonde is “the child of Citizen Kane and Raging Bull” according to Andrew Dominik
She’s the Cuban-Spanish actress Ana de Armasawesome in Dying can wait or in At daggers drawn, who lends her features to the heroine. She explains in the press release unveiling this teaser: “Andrew Dominik’s ambition was very clear from the start: to portray Marilyn Monroe’s journey from her point of view. Andrew wanted viewers to not only understand how Marilyn felt as a star, but also as Norma Jeane. I found it to be the bravest, most uninhibited and most feminist approach to the trajectory of this woman that I have ever seen.” She will be surrounded by Bobby Cannavale, Adrien Brody, Julianne Nicholson, Xavier Samuel and Evan Williams in this project co-produced by Netflix and the company of Brad Pitt and Dede Garner, Plan B. It will be one of the rare works of the platform to be discouraged for children: in the United States, Blonde hair was deemed too crude and “chart”thus bailing outan NC-17 warning (prohibition for children under 17).
Ana de Armas: “A Cuban who plays Marilyn. I wanted to do it so badly.”
