Star Wars: All About the Grand Inquisitor and the Inquisition in Obi-Wan Kenobi

In Obi-Wan Kenobi, not only does Darth Vader return. Even the first moving images revealed that the Grand Inquisitor in the Star Wars series involved. But what exactly is it about the white-faced villain and his followers? We explain everything you need to know about the inquisitors.

The Inquisition were introduced to the Star Wars universe as part of Star Wars Rebels and also played an important role in the video game Jedi: Fallen Order. Basically, we’re dealing with a group here on behalf of the Empire and… Hunt for Order 66 survivors do.

What exactly is the Inquisition in the Star Wars universe?

Order 66 is a pivotal event in Star Wars history. In the darkest hour of Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith, Palpatine gives the Order to wipe out all Jedi, which is being carried out promptly by the clone army across the galaxy. However, as we know, some Jedi were able to survive.

To track them down and bring them down, Palpatine created the Inquisition, which is under the command of Darth Vader. Most of the members are former Jedi who are now turned to the dark side of the force to have. However, they do not take on the status of a Sith Lord.

The aim of the Inquisition is not only to wipe out the Jedi. The elite group acts as an extension of the Empire’s power arm and pursues political dissenters. The fact that later in the sequel trilogy hardly anyone remembers the existence of the Jedi is undoubtedly due to the thorough work of the Inquisition.

Over the past few years we have met many different representatives of the Inquisition. In Obi-Wan Kenobi, three characters are particularly important.

  • The Grand Inquisitor comes from Star Wars Rebels and leads the Inquisition. Familiar with the dark side of the Force, he wields a dual-bladed rotating lightsaber. It’s the first time the sinister Jedi hunter has appeared in a live-action project. He is played by Homeland star Rupert Friend.
  • Inquisitor Reva, also known as the Third Sister, is the first major new character introduced to the Obi-Wan series. The ruthless and ambitious villain is played by Moses Ingram, known from the Netflix series The Queen’s Gambit. We don’t yet know exactly what her motives are.
  • The Fifth Brother has its origins in Star Wars Rebels, just like the Grand Inquisitor. Sung Kang, who played his biggest role to date as Han in the Fast & Furious series, brings the grumpy villain to life, who is particularly notable for his outfit that could have been straight out of a samurai film.

In addition, there are many other inquisitors equipped with black armor and red lightsabers terrorize the galaxy far, far away. The Seventh Sister and the Eighth Brother also appear in Star Wars Rebels. In the comics there is the Sixth Brother and the Tenth Brother.

Two of the memorable inquisitors are from Jedi: Fallen Order. Trilla Suduri aka the Second Sister appears as the major villain of the story who, as a Padawan, was betrayed by her master. She is joined by Masana Tide, who was first tortured by the Empire before changing sides as the Ninth Sister.

What is the Inquisitorius Fortress all about?

The Inquisitorius Fortress acts as a new one Base of the Inquisition, after the group was first stationed on Coruscant. It is located on the moon Nur, which belongs to the Mustafar system. Mustafar is also the name of the fiery planet where Obi-Wan and Anakin fight in Episode 3 and Vader reached his fortress.
