“When a master of cinema like Steven is this enthusiastic, you can’t turn that conversation down.”
For a few days on the bill of Jurassic World: The World After, Laura Dern is back in the universe of Jurassic Park, as Dr. Ellie Sattler. This sequel, directed by Colin Trevorrow (like the Jurassic World of 2015), marks the reunion of the heroine of the first film with her partners Sam Neill (Alan Grant) and Jeff Goldblum (Ian Malcolm), but also the meeting with the new generation, in particular Owen and Claire, played by Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard. Interviewed on her return to the heart of this successful saga, the actress revealed to slashfilm that he was the director of the first film, Steven Spielberg in person, who had contacted her to ask her to come back.
“We had this passionate, interesting and intriguing conversation about Dr. Sattler, where she would be today, she details. If my buddies Alan Grant and Ian Malcolm joined us, would I be willing to have this discussion? When a movie master like Steven is this enthusiastic, you can’t turn down that conversation. Then, I met the producer Frank Marshall, also passionate, then with their collaborator Colin Trevorrow, very open-minded, who asked me: ‘Who would she have become today? What would be important to you? This is the story we thought of. What else could we all bring?‘ I was welcomed in such a warm way, to create as a family, to participate in this unique experience to bring these characters back. I was so grateful to them, that’s what made me want to participate.”
Steven Spielberg – Jurassic Park: “If you don’t believe in dinosaurs, there are no movies”
“- God creates dinosaurs, God destroys dinosaurs. God creates man, man destroys God. Man creates dinosaurs.
– The dinosaurs eat the man, the woman inherits the Earth.”
If this replica of Jurassic Parktold by Ellie Sattler, has marked the public so much, it is because a feminist heroine, “it wasn’t something you usually see in 1990s moviesexplains Laura Dern. I was so proud to see that when it became a franchise, strong women continued to carry these stories. Especially in this new movie, where we’re all together, together. It was important to me that she retain a certain independence, an individuality, that she evolves in a scientific world by focusing on climate change, for example. That’s what we wanted for Dr. Ellie Sattler. I feel proud to embody her again, and to see how much she (and it also works for the other characters in the first film), has influenced moviegoers all these years. I’m happy that thanks to this incredible group, we were able to stay true to these characters.” She adds : “Thanks to the fans, I am well aware of what we brought with her. We made sure that she was the equal of the men in this story. Let it be clear that she was a feminist, and that she has, once again thanks to the work of everyone, feminist dialogues, which have marked the public. That she also has this brilliant, scientific spirit, that she is an activist and an independent spirit. And when things become difficult, that she is able to say: ‘Okay, guys, rest up, I’ll take care of us all.’“
