The Chosen One: Mark Millar's series for Netflix is ​​on hiatus after a fatal accident

Two cast members died and six crew members were injured in a car in Mexico.

The Redrum company, which co-produces The Chosen Onea new series of Mark Millar (the author of Kick-Ass and of Kingsman) for Netflix, announced that they are pausing filming following the June 16 tragedy in Mexico. Eight members of the team were in a van, on a desert road in Mulege between the open set of the series in Santa Rosalia and the airport, when it was hit at high speed by a car. The accident killed actors Raymundo Garduño Cruz and Juan Francisco González Aguilar, and the six other passengers were taken to hospital with serious injuries.

A few days before the tragedy, Raymundo Garduño Cruz shared photos of the shots on his account instagram, explaining that the filming conditions were difficult in the desert. However, he added that he was delighted to have a good time with his friends from The Chosen One.

The filming of this series, which follows a 12-year-old boy discovering that he is the reincarnation of Jesus Christ, had started in April and was to continue for a few more weeks, but the production company stopped everything following this tragedy, reveals Deadline. An investigation is opened to establish the exact circumstances of the accident. In the meantime, the shots of this adaptation of the comics American Jesus are on hiatus. Note that this project is part of the deal signed in 2017 between the comic book author and Netflix to adapt several of his works on the platform, such as Jupiter’s Legacyfor example.
