Today on TV: Bizarre Arnold Schwarzenegger fantasy, which is to be reissued after 37 years

Arnold Schwarzenegger has played many terrific roles in his career. Conan, the Barbarian or Terminator are absolute milestones. Red Sonja is as far away from that as it gets. The actor himself considers the bizarre 1985 fantasy flop his worst film. Nevertheless, it is to be reissued after almost four decades.

Arnold Schwarzenegger’s biggest fantasy flop is set to get a reboot soon

Red Sonja is basically an unofficial spin-off of the Conan movies. There, the young warrior Sonja (Brigitte Nielsen) swears to the brutal Queen Gedren (Sandahl Bergman) revenge for their cruel deeds. While searching for a magical talisman, she meets the fighter Kalidor (Schwarzenegger), but initially rejects his support.

The fantasy adventure has been literally shredded by critics since it was released in cinemas. Stupid, badly staged and poorly cast“, judges the aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes . Director Richard Fleischer brings out the worst in an already miscast cast, she wrote New York Times . And Schwarzenegger’s opinion is no better, like The Independent quoted:

[Red Sonja] is the worst movie I’ve ever made. When my kids misbehave, I send them to their rooms and make them watch Red Sonja ten times. I’ve never had many problems with them.

Nevertheless, the fantasy flop is to be reissued soon. The project was already contemplated to be directed by Robert Rodriguez over 10 years ago (via reelz ). After an eternity in production hell, the second Red Sonja film is set to be shot soon, starring Hannah John-Kamen (Ant-Man and the Wasp). Story details are not yet known. Hopefully he doesn’t share the fate of his predecessor in Schwarzenegger’s nursery.

When will the fantasy flop Red Sonja be on TV?

Red Sonya is running today at 8.15 p.m. on Tele 5. Director Fleischer previously directed Conan the Destroyer. The film has a length of 89 minutes without commercials.
