Twin Ibeyi sounds more harmonious than ever

It is now impossible to imagine that the French-Cuban twin sisters Lisa-Kaindé and Naomi Díaz often clashed strongly, as they said on their debut. Their third album Spell 31 sounds more harmonious than ever, with ‘Sister 2 Sister’ being the rock-solid key song about sister love. Dancing in front of the mirror / singing along with Shakira, they sing as their voices merge. The minimalist, bare beats with sometimes heavy basses have remained, as well as the alternation between English, Spanish and Yoruba, the West African language used in Afro-Cuban santería rituals. The introspective, spiritual lyrics often don’t go much deeper than tile wisdom, but successful collaborations with singer Jorja Smith and rapper Pa Salieu, among others, break through the somewhat brave tone. This album does not yet show what happens when the sisters go full for the dance floor. The start promises a lot, the listener continues to crave.
