Los Angeles.- “Thriller”, by Michael Jackson, the best-selling album of all time, returns to the market this Friday on the occasion of its 40th anniversary in a reissue that includes 10 extra songs, some unpublished and curiosities such as “Starlight”, an initial version of the popular song that gives the album its name.

“Thriller” was originally composed as “Starlight” by Rod Temperton and Quincy Jones. In the chorus of the song, “Starlight! Starlight sun” and not “Thriller! In the night” but it was changed when it was chosen Thriller as the title of the disc.

That lesser-known theme was included in the commemorative album that sees the light of day this Friday. “Thriller” was Jackson’s sixth studio album and features such iconic songs as the one that gives it its name, “Billie Jean” or “Beat It”. It became the best seller of all time with 100 million copies worldwide to date, according to figures from Sony Music.

Produced by Quincy Jones and Jackson himself, seven of the nine songs on the album were released as singles and all of them reached the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100. The video clip for “Thriller”, directed by John Landis, was a turning point in the history of the genre, and that is why it won the Grammy for best long music video in 1984 along with 7 other awards won that year alone.

Among the new material released today are also two tracks previously collected on the posthumous album “Michael” (2010) – the original demo of “Behind the Mask” and an early version of “Best of Joy”, which was conceived as a song for the OST of the film “The Toy” (His favorite toy) from 1982.

There are also completely unpublished tracks such as “She’s Trouble” or “What a Lovely Way to Go”, which was about to be included on the aforementioned album “Michael” after passing through the hands of producer Mark Ronson, although it was not part of it. from the repertoire at the end.

On the occasion of the 40th anniversary of its publication, the album will be the subject of events around the world such as art exhibitions with immersive experiences that will take place in Dusseldorf from November 10 to 13 and in New York from November 18 to 20.

To these are added exclusive screenings of the new documentary “Thriller 40”, with eight unique screenings in eight cities around the world, including Madrid on November 30 at the MK2 Cine Paz.

“Thriller 40” appears in three formats- vinyl with a new alternative cover, a double CD with a dozen tracks added, and a digital version that, in addition to this content, will include 15 remixes.
